Where to eat in Essaouira? The best restaurants

Essaouira is one of the most touristic cities in Morocco. A city full of charm that receives thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. The city attracts people for its world-class beach and surfing courses, but also for its medina and its cultural heritage, not to be missed during a visit to the country.

A tourist town means restaurants everywhere! And you certainly don’t want to visit Essaouira without sampling the Moroccan cuisine. So we have prepared a unique dish for you, containing the restaurants that are worth eating in.

La Table Madada

An upscale French-Moroccan fusion. The menu includes some classics, such as spider crab and avocado tartar with hints of argan oil. The tiger prawns are perfectly grilled, served with Moroccan charmoula and Taliouine saffron rice. Tapas are also available.

A good option to stop and snack before heading out on the town.

Address: 7 Rue Youssef el Fassi.

Open Wednesday to Monday, 7pm to 11pm, advance booking strongly recommended.

Chez Sam

Chez Sam serves fresh fish from the nearby quay. The menu is both hearty and delicious. A rustic, harbour restaurant with a beautiful terrace.

Address: Port of Essaouira.

Open daily from noon to 3pm and from 7pm to 11pm. Reservation recommended.

Caravane Cafe Art

Recommended by former travellers as a great little place for a quick bite to eat, Caravane Cafe Art offers a variety of menu options, even Indonesian and vegan!

Address: 2 bis Rue du Qadi Ayad in the medina.

Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 11pm. Reservations recommended.

Beach and Friends

Located right next to the beach in the south of the medina. Open-air beer, wine, cocktails in sun loungers, listening to the surf. A great place to have a refreshing mid-day drink or watch the sunset. Food is optional and easily avoidable. However, one of the best places to sip an aperitif to start the evening.

Address: 5 Boulevard Mohamed, La Corniche.

Open daily, 11am to 11pm, no reservations required.

Dar Kenavo

Just outside the city, the refined Dar Kenavo serves lunch and dinner in an all-organic blend spiced with a seasonal menu. It’s a little more upmarket with a three-course lunch and dinner.

Located about 12 kilometres from the medina, it has a beautiful garden and heated pool. A nice break from the crowds at the beach for those looking to spend an afternoon by the pool.

Address: Douar Bouzama – BP344, Ghazoua.

By reservation only.
